I just got home from
attending Perryton's 100th celebration. It was a blast.
Several thousand people attended, and after the free bar-b-q dinner
the crowd moved to the Museum of The Plains for live entertainment,
and home-made ice cream for the rest of the evening. The big rain
down-pour last evening made the weather comfortable, and most of the
seating arrangement was under covered roofs, so it was very enjoyable
to sit outside and listen to the live band. A lot of my friends were
there to take in the big event. Perryton has this celebration
yearly, but since this was the 100th this town was crowded
with ex-citizens who came back just to celebrate. It couldn't have
been better organized, or anything added to have made it more
enjoyable. Hats off to all the people who worked so hard to make this
birthday for Perryton, one of the greatest ever. I missed the long
parade because I couldn't get around early enough, but I heard it was
absolutely wonderful. Also I never get to take in the free breakfast
because it starts at 6 o'clock in the morning. It takes till 10
o'clock to get them all fed. Some people think it's rewarding to
stand in line for an hour or two just to get a free breakfast. Not
this person for sure. We do have a great community with great people.
And I don't know why people like this lost city in Texas. I've lived
here 62 years, and I still just tolerate it, even though I know of no
other place I would rather live. All four of my children started
kindergarten here, and graduated here, Only one still lives here. The
others have no interest here at all except for their mother.
When one can go to bed at
night, and feel as though their not on the same planet with all the
terrible evil that the rest of the world deals with, that's got to be
appreciated. That's what isolation gives us. The drug problem is
minimal, the hate issue is slight, the felony charges are low, and
over all the city is pretty safe. Yet I wonder why we are in a
building program of a 15 million dollar jail facility. Could Perryton
be getting prepared for something in the future that has been
prophesied? That very possibly could be true. It does seem like evil
is spreading, and getting worse every day. But as for now, I feel so
safe, and blessed in my little place of a long time home. Some people
never lock their doors, and feel completely safe. I do lock my doors,
because I am not one to take risks even though it seems unnecessary.
Evil has a way of finding us even though it may be thousands of miles
away. We all are part of a larger, world technology age that can
locate anything that might seem vulnerable. Nothing we can do, or
deny access to, can keep us completely safe. Only God can keep us
safe.
God Bless
