"Silver And Gold Have I Some"

A tiny child"s ring possible from an Indian settlement located fifteen miles south of my house where I dug it up. 3-9-2018 Perryton, TX.

I recently dug up this tiny child’s ring when planting garden in my yard. It is marked sterling, and 14 k. gold. The heart shaped design is set with a 14 k. gold Indian bird. The marking inside the ring is definitely a jewelers mark, and it is clearly seen, but I have not yet gotten it identified. The ring is in mint condition. My house sits on a piece of ground that we bought to build it on 49 years ago. It had been a wheat field before being developed for residential building lots. Fifteen miles south of me is a buried Indian City. It is located between a mountainous area where Indians used to trade. The Buried City has been professionally excavated by a man who bought the land. He used the most skilled scientific archeologist he could find. Many artifacts have been moved from the site to the City’s museum. Hundreds of arrow heads have been found through out the mountains around the area. I am trying to find an antique expert of old Indian jewelry to identify this tiny ring. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. The ring looks to be of the finest craftsmanship. I am a lover of fine antiques of any kind, and used to own an antique shop. I just can’t get it out of my blood. I have also found some old marbles in my yard. Since no one lived on this spot of grown before me, I have to think this land was once lived on by Indians also. I am inside the city limits now, but when we first came here this spot was far out of town. That was 65 years ago. There are still a few dug-outs here with people still living in them by choice. They have modernized them, but enjoy the past memories of hardship many years ago. I live in the far north west part of the panhandle of Texas. No sky scrappers or commuting trains within many miles of here. But a place of peace, interest, and prosperity from farming, ranching, and gas, and oil, production. The original town of Perryton, Texas has grown to a small city with several nice motels, lovely homes, and new churches. We can boast of one of the nicest, and largest museums within miles.

A bit of interesting truth about our county is the development of the cemetery south of town. One of the founders of it was the first to be buried there. This is quite coincidental, but many more stories can be told of just such coincidences. Funny, sad, and some important facts can all be told about our city of Perryton. I am a hypocrite to my regret. I always told my husband if he died before me, I was leaving this place the next day. He would never even talk about leaving Perryton. He has been gone over five years, and I love this place more now than ever before. I hope God has forgive me.

"Green Is In This Month"

St. Patrick's Day at the Center 3-9-2014. 4 years ago today. 3-9-2018 Perryton, TX

This is the month of St. Patrick’s Day. The tables at the Citizen’s Center are decorated so nicely. I wanted to show just how nice this group of ladies do in making our Center come alive with memories of the past. This picture was taken four years ago today at the Center. The entire month of the designated, celebrated event is filled with excitement. No loss of memory can stay lost for long. A friend and I will be going to Clinton, Oklahoma on St. Patrick’s Day next Saturday, March 17, 2018. We will be getting our happy spirits back form a long time of missing out on our fun, and excitement of the Lucky Star Casino there. My friend has been through a long period of almost, “home bound,” sickness. She is, by faith, planning to make this event happen with me. I trust it will make a positive improvement on her weak body, and help her forget the pain she has been dealing with. I too need a, get away, time of forgetting some unpleasant activity that happened during my absence from an exciting, concentrative, place of, burying the problems. I also need to celebrate some very good happenings that I call a miracle. Both needs will be complete when my friend, and I, get together to laugh our heads off. Thank God for friends, and pleasure. Both are a blessing to me from God. I trust everything to go as planned for a wonderful week-end. Until then I will watch the clock slowly move it’s hands.

I’m angry about dead leaves piling up again where I had cleaned them off. The wind has blown constantly for two months. I wish I could leave now. My hard labor just seems to get harder, but I know I must keep exercising these old bones. I would rather rake leaves, and cut weeds, than ride a bicycle or walk a mile every day. I wonder what will happen when I lose all of my determination. I really have to work harder at that than anything else. Even the fun, enjoyable things I like to do, I still have to push laziness out of my way. I am still big enough to do that now. Also I am moved by moods. When a mood strikes me I want to do it now. I believe this behavior is called “second childhood.” My children are so good about helping me live my second childhood. I think they remember when they were living their first, how difficult they made it for me sometimes. Oh! How much I love these kids God gave me. Four of them along with six grand’s that they were blessed with. I can never let them steal my brain, I can only loan it to them. They are ok with that. Most of them have received more degrees than I, if that makes any difference. Tell me how God could love us so much?

"My Home My Abode"

Sitting in my recliner taking a picture of the sun setting this evening. 4-7-3018 Perryton, TX

After a long tiring day I am relaxing in my recliner, and watching the sun go down through the dinning room window. I have had a good day, but after getting home from lunch at the Senior Citizen’s Center, I did a lot of work around the house. I cooked food for today, and tomorrow so I should have the next couple of days free. It was too windy today to work outside, but I can put that off for a few days.

The tables were decorated so pretty at the Center today. March is St. Patrick’s month, and as always the tables are decorated according to the celebrated event. That alone is enough to make one smile, and be thankful for our freedom. We have had two or three deaths in our community recently, so several were missing because of attending funerals. Everyone was glad the primaries were over, and talked some about the results. I never saw any frowns on any faces. This Center is a place of forgetting troubles, and sharing joys. Three days a week we are privileged to eat lunch there. I missed one of my dear friends  because she left today on a two week trip to Italy and Greece. I turn down any long trip I’m offered because I am mostly a home body. I feel safe, and contented, in my home, and I can’t say that about traveling. This friend makes several long trips every year, and dearly loves traveling. My son will be leaving this month on a business trip to Columbia. I will worry about him till he gets back. Sometimes it seems as though the whole world has turned into a war zone. Only God can make things better.

The Psalmist David is my sleeping pill each night. I am in the 64th chapter of his song, and I read a full chapter every night. I can relax, and sleep soundly after reading his constant plea to God for help. My prayer time is the last thing I do before pulling the covers over me. I do not understand the life of David, but I do know he was God’s favorite King even with all the mistakes David made. I’m going to miss reading the book of Psalms, and I’m glad it has a lot of chapters. I started the second or third time to read the bible through from Genesis to Revelations. I not only read, I try to make myself one of the characters and fit into the story. What would I do differently if I were actually one of those bible characters? God chooses His characters accordingly to His plan of earthly action. I often think what it would have been like to be Judas, the disciple who betrayed Jesus. Someone had to do it in order to carry out God’s plan. I believe that is true of every living soul. We just must not dwell on things like that, and trust God with all our might.
